How to convert kilowatts to metric horsepower
One kilowatt equals 1.3596 metric horsepower, so multiply the number of kilowatts by 1.3596:
PS = kW × 1.3596
kW = PS ÷ 1.3596 (1 PS = 0.735499 kW)
Example: 11 kW → 11 × 1.3596 = 14.9558 PS.
Going the other way, divide by 1.3596, or multiply by 0.735499.
Everyday values

About the units
- Kilowatt (kW): 1,000 watts.
- Metric horsepower (PS): 75 kilogram-force metres per second, exactly 735.49875 W (also CV or pk).
Both are units of power. The conversion factor comes from the exact definitions above, so the calculator is exact; results are only rounded for display (up to six significant digits).
