How to convert horsepower to kilowatts
One horsepower equals 0.7457 kilowatts, so multiply the number of horsepower by 0.7457:
kW = hp × 0.7457
hp = kW ÷ 0.7457 (1 kW = 1.341 hp)
Example: 15 hp → 15 × 0.7457 = 11.1855 kW.
Going the other way, divide by 0.7457, or multiply by 1.341; the kilowatts to horsepower converter does it for you.
Everyday values
| Horsepower | Kilowatts | For example |
|---|---|---|
| 15 hp | 11.1855 kW | a 125 cc motorcycle, roughly |
| 100 hp | 74.57 kW | a small family car |
| 200 hp | 149.14 kW | a sporty car |
| 400 hp | 298.28 kW | a sports car |
| 1,000 hp | 745.7 kW | a hypercar |
When you need this conversion
This converter uses mechanical (imperial) horsepower, 745.7 W. European "PS" or "CV" is slightly smaller at 735.5 W, so 100 PS is 73.5 kW while 100 hp is 74.6 kW. Electric motors are usually rated directly in kW.

About the units
- Horsepower (hp): mechanical horsepower, 550 foot-pounds per second, about 745.7 W.
- Kilowatt (kW): 1,000 watts.
Both are units of power. The conversion factor comes from the exact definitions above, so the calculator is exact; results are only rounded for display (up to six significant digits).
