How to convert horsepower to metric horsepower
One horsepower equals 1.0139 metric horsepower, so multiply the number of horsepower by 1.0139:
PS = hp × 1.0139
hp = PS ÷ 1.0139 (1 PS = 0.98632 hp)
Example: 100 hp → 100 × 1.0139 = 101.387 PS.
Going the other way, divide by 1.0139, or multiply by 0.98632; the metric horsepower to horsepower converter does it for you.
Everyday values
| Horsepower | Metric horsepower | For example |
|---|---|---|
| 100 hp | 101.387 PS | 100 hp |
| 200 hp | 202.774 PS | 200 hp |
| 500 hp | 506.935 PS | 500 hp |
When you need this conversion
Multiply hp by 1.0139 to get PS. The difference is small, about 1.4%, but on powerful engines it adds up: 500 hp is 507 PS.

About the units
- Horsepower (hp): mechanical horsepower, 550 foot-pounds per second, about 745.7 W.
- Metric horsepower (PS): 75 kilogram-force metres per second, exactly 735.49875 W (also CV or pk).
Both are units of power. The conversion factor comes from the exact definitions above, so the calculator is exact; results are only rounded for display (up to six significant digits).
