How to convert newton metres to kilogram-force metres
One newton metre equals 0.101972 kilogram-force metres, so multiply the number of newton metres by 0.101972:
kgf·m = N·m × 0.101972
N·m = kgf·m ÷ 0.101972 (1 kgf·m = 9.8067 N·m)
Example: 10 N·m → 10 × 0.101972 = 1.0197 kgf·m.
Going the other way, divide by 0.101972, or multiply by 9.8067; the kilogram-force metres to newton metres converter does it for you.
Everyday values
| Newton metres | Kilogram-force metres | For example |
|---|---|---|
| 10 N·m | 1.0197 kgf·m | 10 N·m |
| 25 N·m | 2.5493 kgf·m | a spark plug, roughly |
| 100 N·m | 10.1972 kgf·m | a car wheel nut, roughly |
When you need this conversion
Divide N·m by 9.807 to get kgf·m. Some torque wrenches sold in Asia show both scales.

About the units
- Newton metre (N·m): the torque of 1 newton acting 1 metre from the axis.
- Kilogram-force metre (kgf·m): exactly 9.80665 N·m, still common in Japanese and Asian service manuals.
Both are units of torque. The conversion factor comes from the exact definitions above, so the calculator is exact; results are only rounded for display (up to six significant digits).
