How to convert kilogram-force metres to newton metres
One kilogram-force metre equals 9.8067 newton metres, so multiply the number of kilogram-force metres by 9.8067:
N·m = kgf·m × 9.8067
kgf·m = N·m ÷ 9.8067 (1 N·m = 0.101972 kgf·m)
Example: 1.2 kgf·m → 1.2 × 9.8067 = 11.768 N·m.
Going the other way, divide by 9.8067, or multiply by 0.101972; the newton metres to kilogram-force metres converter does it for you.
Everyday values
| Kilogram-force metres | Newton metres | For example |
|---|---|---|
| 1 kgf·m | 9.8067 N·m | 1 kgf·m |
| 1.2 kgf·m | 11.768 N·m | a motorcycle spark plug, roughly |
| 10 kgf·m | 98.0665 N·m | a car wheel nut, roughly |
When you need this conversion
Older Japanese and many Asian service manuals give torque in kgf·m (sometimes written kg·m). Multiply by 9.807 to get N·m. Always use the value from the manual for your own vehicle.

About the units
- Kilogram-force metre (kgf·m): exactly 9.80665 N·m, still common in Japanese and Asian service manuals.
- Newton metre (N·m): the torque of 1 newton acting 1 metre from the axis.
Both are units of torque. The conversion factor comes from the exact definitions above, so the calculator is exact; results are only rounded for display (up to six significant digits).
